Watercolors are really quite dear to me. As a little girl, I used to love doodling with this beautiful medium, and it's so wonderful to see how mainstream they've become.
I don't use them as much as I'd like to, but every now and again, I'll reach into my art drawer and add a little color to my day.
One of these days I'm eager to try the many techniques I've been diligently filing away - it's just so fun to play and explore with art, don't you think? For today, I've made a simple card with a tried-and-true resist technique and a few splashes of color, using my new (and favorite!) Daniel Smith watercolors.
For this card, I was inspired by the gorgeous, new Altenew Mega Greetings set, which I so desperately want to add to my collection. Isn't it soooo lovely?! Since I promised myself I would try to only add stamps and dies that were unlike anything I currently own, I decided it was probably best to try and shop in my stash first. To my happy surprise, I found a similar, large sentiment, using an older Stampin' Up set (discontinued, similar here).
I stamped the large sentiment with Versamark ink, followed by Ranger Fine Detail Embossing Powder in white, and heat set the pretty letters.
I used my watercolors over the embossed image for an emboss-resist. Some techniques will never go out of style :) I used Daniel Smith colors in Rhodonite Genuine, Quinacridone Gold, and Quinacidrone Coral. These are a first for me - tube watercolors - but I think I'm converted! These colors are so vibrant, super pigmented, bold, and easy to blend. I think I'm in love :)
I matted the card base onto a soft aqua print, and added a soft heart vellum paper over top. Even with the frosted vellum, the bright colors shine through so well.
I added a cluster to the top of the card, consisting of stitched buttons, flowers, paper string, and PTI's Confetti Garlands borders. Just under that, I added a die-cut sentiment from PTI's Big Hugs die set.
Can't wait to use these more!
Thank you for visiting today!
