Papertrey Inspiration Rolodex

~Organized Inspiration~

It's hump-day, and I am not quite sure where the time has gone this week. I am hoping for a more productive second half, and certainly hoping that this weekend is a much more productive one than last. There are a few things that have piled up in the house that need desperate tending to...And yet I am here, blogging :)

What can I say...When it comes to deciding between house work and play, it's sort of a no-brainer.

And I couldn't help popping in quickly to share an idea that has been stirring in my mind ever since I saw this beautiful creation by Melissa Phillips

I wanted a place where I could tuck in my favorite techniques, color combos, and tiny little inspiration projects, to perk me up creatively on those not-so-inspired days.

To create the box, I purchased a Martha Stewart desk organizer, which happened to be just the right size for the file cards. I picked up the white one, and decorated it with a strip of pretty floral fabric.

The large flower on the front of the box was made using the Lovely Layers die, and is held together by a Winter Wisteria button.

Inside the organizer, I tucked in a combination of mini file tabs, tags and pockets to document my favorite color combinations, embellishment techniques, tag ideas, and to hide little design treasures :)

For example, for one of the embellishment technique cards, I compiled several supplies that would look lovely glittered, such as buttons, chipboard, and my handmade clay embellishments. I not only have a list of ideas to inspire me, but including the actual little trinkets on the card provides for a really quick and easy reference point, especially if you are a visual person, like me :)

Now, let's break down the supplies I used to make all the pretty file tabs...
To start I die-cut each file tab using one of the three Desktop File Cards
I, then, stamped each one, using Smokey Shadow ink and the Desktop File Inspiration stamp set.

For the Color Combo cards, I simply stamped the color combinations inside the little boxes, and wrote out the colors for easy reference. I took the same ink colors to stamp designs onto little buttons or flowers and adhered them to the side of each card.

For the Embellishment cards, I just replicated the technique I listed on various mediums, (such as die-cutting, glittering, and embossing on different materials).

Couldn't resist also throwing in a couple of sweet tags.
They are purely for visual inspiration, and are made of layers, materials and colors I love.

For this first tag, I used the Tag Sale # 1 die, along with the Banner Borders die, and stamps from Stitched Sentiments, Love Lives Here, as well as Tag Its #1.

The heart shapes are cut using the Sizzix Primitive Hearts die, out of Vintage Cream and Harvest Gold felt.

The next tag is made using the Tag Sale #3 die, along with stamps from the Stitched Sentiments set, stamped in Aqua Mist ink.
{I added a little patch of the same fabric to the tag as I did to the file box.}

The last little thing I added to the inspiration box, was a tiny little envelope, which I die-cut using the Seed Packet die, and beautiful Carta Bella paper.
I decorated the front with a white doily, cut using the Doily Details dies, another felt heart, and flower and button embellishment using beautiful Lemon Tart buttons.

Even though this little rolodex has been on my dresser for not more than two days, it makes me smile each time I breeze past it. I also love that it is a work in progress, to which I can add new color combos, neat little techniques I come across, or anything else that inspires me creatively.

Thanks so much for visiting :)

p.s. Don't forget to check back later today, as I will be posting another project that I have brewing at the moment.
