There's something about a stamped background, isn't there? It can be as involved, or as simple as we make it. As colorful or monochromatic as we like. And we don't need to be Picasso to achieve beautiful results.
I often stamp up backgrounds just because I enjoy the color play. On a rainy day at the cabin, on a plane ride, or on a beach somewhere, it's the perfect way to infuse a little creativity into tiny blocks of time. I may or may not use the final product, but the joy it brings me, is plenty for my heart and soul.
But I'll admit, using a stamped artpiece in a card, definitely compounds that satisfaction ;)
For today's card, I wanted to use every square inch of this background since I am really smitten with it. I created it using the Dear Friend stamp set, inked up in various hues. As you can see my pink was running out a tad, but that's okay, I think it gives the card character :)
I realized right away that the print could benefit from some solid color, and that it could help the sentiment stand out a bit more.

TIP
Instead of just adding a diamond shaped diecut over the print, I decided to cut it out instead. I prefer this method, because it prevents me from covering up any part of the print, and it also means I get an extra piece to infuse into my design! Here I used the Small Fringe Banner instead of a simple diamond, so I could double up and use the banner.

To finish off my card, I used Heaps of Hearts accents on the banner, a Scalloped Frame, and some extra scallops at the bottom.
Before you head off, I'd love to know, do you love to stamp backgrounds or do you prefer to buy patterns?

DeleteHello Ivnna, I think I am smitten! Beautiful, colorful. Everything is so fresh and alive! Vibrant and welcoming card; not to mention beautifully created.
ReplyDelete--You asked a few Q'ns, I want to respond. I honestly think I don't stamp bkgd's because I forget. Yep. It's true I love patterned paper, and it 'does the work' for me. [Brutally honest- and this is just me, but stamps can sometimes seem only for a word statement or simple embellishment, but] what you've done here is amazing! and reminds me that paper is a blank slate- and you can create your own amazing 'patterned' paper! Again, it is your personal creativity that shines thru here Ivanna! : )
Love love that little banner! How fresh and fun is that? Thanks for all you do and share~ Hugs, karen o
Thank you so much sweet Karen! I sure do adore the way you make magic with patterns. Your cards are always so beautiful and cozy...Full of layers and texture...I just love them!
DeleteHow gorgeous your card that highlights all the pretty images/colours of your stamped background. I do love making backgrounds, but don't have the success you do. That's why I'm a fan of the turnabout series *grin* After seeing your artistry here, I'm inspired to give other images a go! By the way: your posts are ever so eloquent! Your certainly have a flair for writing (and as a many-years, now-retired high school English teacher, I am 110% qualified to say that. Plus I'm older than you (by a long shot), so you also must 'listen to your elders' *grin*)

Ohhh I love the turnabout series! While stamping backgrounds is incredibly fun for me, you would not believe how many attempts end up in the 'need to fix this up later/didn't quite work out this time' pile! lol But I march on, nonetheless! And biggest thank you's for the incredibly sweet note, dear Carol. I'm always so humbled by your kindness. xoxo
