~For Mom~
Although still a ways away, I was inspired to create a few cards for Mother's Day in an effort to help speed this winter up. It has been an unusually long winter here, with most of our snow falling this month...Looking outside my window, I almost feel as though we are in the dead of winter, rather than the start of Spring. So, naturally, my instinct is to do and create anything that might take my mind away from these chilly days...And these cheerful and soft colors are just what I needed. Plus, they made me think of my momma the moment I started playing with them, and I couldn't resist making a few card that I knew she would love.
I also happened to have had most of the ingredients ready as a result of many hours of glittering buttons, stamping fabric and cutting pretty little vellum shapes during last weekend's crop. Remember my post on prepping? Well, I stuck to the same technique for this crop and I have to say, it's working wonders for me :)
Such a lovely thing to be able to enjoy gatherings as such without the added pressure of trying to complete piles and piles of projects. Plus, anything I do accomplish in the way of creating little embellies, puts me way ahead of the game....And with getting to use the little bits for Mom Day projects, this way, I am way ahead of the game on that account, as well :) So a double 'yay' for me!
First up, I created a homespun, hand-stitched, felt patched, ribbon-luscious, glitter-sprinkled card full of soft layers, candy colors and delicate details.
I started out with a white card base, which I covered with a beautiful lilac Maja Design paper.
I covered the bottom portion of the lilac paper with a piece of vellum, which I stitched along the sides and bottom, and filled with heart confetti and glitter, before stitching up the top. I hope to use some sparkly sequins next time I give this technique a try, but for now, I love the little specs of white ever-so-slightly showing through.
Just over the velum, I added a precious little chipboard mason jar. I cannot wait to get my Papertrey Ink order, and the beautiful jar stamps and dies I've ordered. I've had my eye on them for a while now...and I don't think my in-laws can get here quickly enough with my parcel!
Anywho, let's get back to the card, shall we?
Next, I added a fabric patch (more on this later), and a few buttons to the front of the mason jar...I absolutely LOVE the way those buttons sparkle...Like sugar coated candy...They were messy, and fun to make, so I made a handful of the buttons and used them throughout the projects featured on this post. If you love them too, you can find them here, as I've made a few extras just for you :)
Just below the buttons, I added a die-cut border, along with some liquid pearls.
To the top of the card, I adhered a panel of fabric (same as the bit used on the mason jar), which I hand-stamped. It is so precious and soft and full of yummy colors. I have a bit more to share, so I've added it to my Shoppe, and I must remember to make more! Maybe new colors, different designs...My little hamsters are just sprinting with inspiration!
Just over the fabric, I added a die-cut doily, but I didn't want to cover up that sweet fabric, so I cut out the center part of the doily. I stitched on a felt heart border, and added a scrumptious yellow ribbon with a vintage button to finish off the top.
Both sentiments are stamped on vellum and embossed with white ink...Melissa's beautiful cards inspired me to try this technique, and I can't express how much my little heart loves the way this looks. It is safe to say that I could spend a whole lot more time cutting and embossing other little bits of vellum to use on future projects...It is probably my new fave way of using all the lovely stamps I have.
Case in point, another card I created for Mom Day, featuring the same little bits as the card above, including more embossed vellum :)
I layered the patterned paper onto white cardstock and added two pinked felt squares. Over that I layered a pinked hand-stamped fabric strip, vellum embellishment with a glittered button and a felt heart with a embossed monogram.
The bottom portion of the card was a breeze to coordinate, as I simply stamped the same roses in the same colors onto plain white cardstock.
This card could possibly be my favorite of the bunch...I think it could do with the fact that most of the background is layered with the pretty handmade fabric. I also love how the vellum softens the colors ever-so-slightly and provides for such a dimensional look when a tag is tucked inside the vellum pocket.
To add a little jazz to the front of the vellum, I used another little doily (with the center cut out) and stamped and embossed a white sentiment, which I layered over a felt heart.
To the lower part of the vellum pocket, I added a diecut flower, which was also embossed and decorated with a glittered button.
I kept the tag really simple, adding only some ribbon and a button to the top, along with a few stamped and cut images and a vellum flower.
This is just a small peek of what I created using these little goodies...So stay tuned as I will be back to share more in a couple of days!
Thanks for joining me today. Wishing you all a lovely weekend,
*Ivana*
