Card Layering Tips - Pinkfresh Studio

Hi sweet Friends!
I am so excited to be sharing a couple of cards over on the Pinkfresh blog today - you can swing by to check them out, or just read below ;)

I wanted to pay homage to two different styles of  layering - mixing up florals with different backgrounds.

First up, an ink-blended background, and a wee tip on ink blending. Even if ink blending is not your thing, my cheat tip is to use a large focal point such as this gorgeous floral, to layer over-top. That way you can give yourself permission to muck up wherever other elements will be layered ;)

You can hardly tell, no?

To finish things off, I added a frame die-cutdie-cut sentiment, and some sequins and crystals, along with marker dots and tiny heart confetti. I love how ink-blended backgrounds work universally for just about any design. The softness doesn't compete with any focal points, so it's easy to pile on the toppings!

My next card is a fun example of how to kick up the background a notch by adding a pattern. The trick for seamless layering that's worked well for me, is to use light colors and/or smaller print for the background and follow up with brighter colors or large accents for whatever I layer on top. This helps the design look balanced, and it allows both the background and focal points to shine, without competing with one another.

To accent the florals, I did two-step stamping, but also added some marker flicks using my Blick Art Studio markers.

I also added a little trim with the lacy edgers (from the slimline collection), and a sentiment strip, and finished things off with a button and some twine.

Such a fun pair of cards to make - but I also love that they show there is no right or wrong way to layer and build cards. Whether opting for a simple base or a patterned one, piling on oversize florals or dainty ones, with just a few little tricks, the process is easy and super fun!
