Best Ever - The Stamp Market | Adding Softness with a Vellum Overlay

All the cherry and apple blossoms are in bloom on our street and I adore seeing them in my view out the window. I love their aroma, their color, and the softness they bring to our green landscape. Perhaps knowing that it won't be long before they're gone for another year, makes me appreciate their brief greeting even more.

To start my 'blossom' card, I stamped my cardstock base with the gorgeous All in Bloom stamp, in a soft grey ink. I also used a same-sized piece of vellum, heat-embossing the same design in white. I loosely added colors to the cardstock base (or for less buckling, watercolor paper), and then adhered my vellum overlay on top. It gives the card the exact kind of softness I was going for - just like the delicate florals of fruit trees.

Of course, I couldn't forget about adding a bow, some sparkles, and a sentiment. But I wonder, does it get lost among all the flowers? I sort of intended on a whole lot of softness, but perhaps next time I would add a soft pinky hue.

Still, I adore these gorgeous blooms and I think they're just the perfect way to keep blossoms blooming all year long!

  1. I LOVE the look of vellum on a card but use it rarely because I never know how to adhere it. What do you use? I know the trick to put the adhesive under the stamped/embossing so you cannot see it but I am always afraid it will fall apart easily.

LOVE the soft colors under the vellum and your use of the fabulous seam binding ribbon. GORGEOUS card!!

    1. Thank you so much, Nora! I vary the method depending on how much vellum I'm using. If it's a cover front, I try to wrap it around the card base and adhere to the back. If using little bits, I've found that the SB.com brand vellum tape works really well - the blue kind. For really tiny bits, I use my glue gun or a glue pen, and try to add the adhesive behind stamped images and such...So basically, I get really creative with it! I totally know what you mean though...wish there was just a single universal vellum adhesive that worked well.

  3. It's been a long time since I added a vellum overlay like this to a card. I first learned to do it with holly images for a Christmas card over 20 years ago. Thanks for the wonderful reminder--love it done with cherry blossoms!
